Internship Opportunities   

Church World Service is currently accepting applications for Spring 2019 internships!

CWS is glad to host students for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Positions are available with our case management, employment, and legal staff.   Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and interviews will continue until positions are filled. All internships are unpaid.

Requirements:

  • All interns are required to complete a background check.
  • All internships require an interest in serving refugee and immigrant populations.
  • All internships require flexibility, the ability to work as part of a team and to work independently.
  • For internships that require driving:
    • Applicants must be at least 21 years old
    • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and a vehicle
    • Applicants must complete a motor vehicle record check

 

CWS is currently accepting internship applications for Spring 2019 for the following programs:

Reception and Placement Intern

The R&P Intern works as a member of the case management team to assist newly arrived refugees in accessing services and building skills to achieve lasting self- sufficiency in the US. Interns will engage in direct service with clients to ensure that basic needs are met and assist clients to set both short and long-term goals. **This position requires driving**

Preferred Communities Intern

The PC Intern will work alongside the Senior Case Manager to support the resettlement of newly arriving refugees with the best opportunities for their integration into their new communities, supporting refugees with special needs that require more intensive case management.

Legal Services Intern

CWS-G provides low-cost, comprehensive immigration legal services to refugees and immigrants throughout the Triad, including green card applications for refugees and assisting eligible Lawful Permanent Residents to become U.S. citizens. The Legal Services intern will assist our staff attorney in conducting administrative tasks, completing casework, and working with legal clients to prepare for immigration appointments. The intern will also have the experience to shadow various immigration appointments.

ESOL Intern

English as a Second Language (ESOL) is a service offered by CWS-G to assist clients who are in need of additional help learning the English language. During ESOL, English Language Learners (ELLs) learn the foundations of the English language through auditory and visual means. The majority of ELLs are new arrivals to the country with varying levels of exposure to the English language to which we are accustomed. The ESOL Tutor will work with the Volunteer Coordinator in creating lessons that will help to advance the ELLs understanding of the English language. The ESOL Tutor will, along with volunteer assistants, deliver lessons to adult refugee students in a non-traditional, in-home setting.
